Something a little different for this cover song Saturday. Neil Cicierega is a musician, comedian and maker of fantastic Internet things (most notably, Harry Potter Puppet Pals, The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny and the Mouth Sounds trilogy). "Aaron" is one of his ridiculous, should-piss-you-off-but-is-actually-pretty-groovy remixes, rearranging and adding to Aaron Carter's, "Aaron's Party (Come Get It)".
I've been a fan of Neil's for years. I still have vivid memories of singing the entire Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny with friends on bus rides as a teenager. But if you take a step back from all the silliness, it becomes clear just how talented a musician and arranger Neil is. "Aaron" is meant to be funny, of course, but it's really a solid remix.
I highly recommend you go check out the Mouth Sounds trilogy, especially the last entry, Mouth Moods. These meme-centric mash-up albums are simply incredible. You'll laugh until you cry, but you'll be tapping your foot along the way.
Song-a-Day Double Feature!
I forgot to post a blog yesterday! That's one strike for me. Anyways, here's a second recommendation to make up for it. I attended the Firefly Music Festival a few years back and The Preatures were on the lineup. In preparation, I started listening to songs by all the bands I didn't know to determine who I would want to see. The Preatures ended up pulling out of the festival for some unknown reason, but this Aussie rock band got a few songs stuck in my head anyways.
"Is This How You Feel?" just hits every pleasure center for me. It's a great mid-tempo groove, fantastic back-and-forth between vocalists and some classic California pop-rock guitar lines and synth textures. The most obvious comparison is probably Fleetwood Mac, but I think it's a fitting one. I hope you like both of today's picks!
