It's a late cover song Saturday! This week, I'm featuring a performance by the fantastic Punch Brothers.
The A.V. Club started doing a cover song series called A.V. Undercover a few years back. During the series the Chris Thile led bluegrass band, Punch Brothers, came in and performed their version of "Just What I Needed" by The Cars. The sounds of electric guitars and pop drums are replaced by organic, acoustic tones provided by superb violin, mandolin and banjo performance. But really, the thrill of the cover is the fun the band is having with it. Chris is rocking out on vocals the entire time, and Gabe Witcher and Noam Pikelny's banjo v. violin finale is worth staying until the end for. If you like this cover, I strongly recommend scrolling through the lists of other A.V. Undercover performances by a plethora of bands big and small.
